abalone shells and lovers

Image
Carpe Diem Universal Jane #4 abalone shells and lovers Sometimes the stars are either aligned perfectly or so imperfectly it is amusing.  The event you are about to read is one such event.  As was the tradition of our farming family when something not farm like happened we had to participate in the event.  One such event was when my sister's husband went on a business trip.  He flew in an actual airplane! A little background to help understand the significance of this.  The folks were not the wealthy Southern Plantation owners.  No, my folks were just a notch above share croppers.  The land, which usually included a house for us to live in, was rented from an owner.  A portion of the crop proceeds paid the rent.  There was no running water nor any type of indoor plumbing.  Daddy had wired the house for electricity shortly after we moved into the house.  Only recently had we 'moved to town' where we actually had 'modern plumbing.' So someone in our fami

folding paper

Image
Carpe Diem #1079 folding paper Recently our bonus granddaughter celebrated her 16th birthday with a big bash.  Weeks of preparation went into the planning, purchasing and implementing of the party.  A glow in the dark party with a circle theme.  One of the projects was folded fan circles.  A couple of evenings spent folding, folding and more folding of 8.5" x 11" glow paper. Next was gluing.  Cutting the pleated folds for different sizes.  Finally turning the folded rectangles into circles with the help of more glue.  The fans made a great accent for several posters!  And the effort help bring our blended family into a closer circle. celebrations accordion bellows songs of love ©    petra domina Thanks to Chèvrefeuille for daily prompts on  CARPE DIEM HAIKU KAI Which, also explains why I missed a few prompt deadlines!  Little circles all hand cut!

Carpe Diem Special (3rd guest) Herman van Rompuy's 3rd "birds in concert"                ----------- inspirational post excerpts ----------- spring has come; a nameless hill is shrouded in thin mist © Matsuo Basho (Tr. Blyth) In this haiku by Basho we read the mystery ... and the "word-painting" in this one is really awesome. "a nameless hill shrouded in mist" sure ... you can see only a faint image of the hill, but as the mist has gone than maybe we know the name of the hill. birds in concert one sings above all others I don't know its name © Herman van Rompuy (taken from: Haiku, by him) at sunrise sunrays on my naked body birds singing © Chèvrefeuille ---------------  response ---------------- mate is wooed a song and dance which to choose? ©    petra domina Thanks to Chèvrefeuille for daily prompts on  CARPE DIEM HAIKU KAI

clay

Image
Carpe Diem #1076 clay Uncle Clay was my hero.  Uncle Clay was in the tank division under George Patton during the Battle of the Bulge during WWII.  His brother, my Uncle Bud, was in the war, too.  Uncle Bud was in the hospital in England when his infantry division advanced using the tank division of Uncle Clay.  These two brothers returned from that war.  Being a baby boomer I was born not long after thy returned.  Uncle Bud was not around as much.  Uncle Clay was always around.  I loved him with the love of a young child.  He loved me so very much, too.  He wanted me to meet his girlfriend and her children before he would marry her.  I fell in love with the girlfriend and her children just as he had.  Uncle Clay, Aunt Celistine, and Jerry are gone now.  Now only ChipChip and I remain.  But that love from Uncle Clay still is with me. from the earth molded by hands of strength a loving heart ©    petra domina Thanks to Chèvrefeuille for daily prompts on  CAR

I have searched for haiku written by him all over the globe (of course virtually) and found several beauties. I hope to inspire you with these haiku written by Herman van Rompuy. the night has fallen the bare branches can be seen even more lonely © Herman van Rompuy This haiku, in my opinion, resonates in tune with the time of year, but in this haiku I also sense a reflection of that wonderful haiku by Matsuo Basho (1644-1694): kare eda ni karasu no tomarikeri aki no kure on a bare branch a crow has stopped autumn dusk © Matsuo Basho ... o stay more close to the haiku of Herman van Rompuy I created the following haiku: the last sunrays painting shadows on the white wall abandoned f
